ASLO Basic Meeting Information

In preparing a proposal for an ASLO meeting, the following is the basic information needed from a local organizing group:

  • Interest and enthusiasm to host the meeting
  • Initial contact with a conference center or large meeting facility
  • Willingness to co-chair the committee and form a committee
  • Ideas for bringing the local culture into the meeting
  • Travel information and ease of international travel to this location
  • Overall costs to attendees as well as to the association
  • Opportunities for local funding and other support to defray the cost of an international meeting

  • Ability to host a meeting of 2000+ scientists
  • Facility for plenary sessions daily, 8-12 concurrent session rooms holding 150-200 participants
  • Wide range of hotels within easy access to the conference location
  • Ample area for exhibits and posters

Basic space requirements:

  • Exhibits/posters-40,000 sq ft/3720 sq meters
  • General sessions-16,000 sq ft/1500 sq meters
  • Concurrent sessions-18,000 sq ft/1670 sq meters
  • Offices/misc. rooms-1600 sq ft/150 sq meters
  • Total Space: 75,600 sq ft/7040 sq meters

The business office provides the administrative and management support including abstract submission, registration, conference coordination and management of the budget and finances.

The local committee is mostly responsible for local activities and serving as a liaison with local entities as well as the scientific content of the meeting.
